Affaire des téléphones en prison : L'immunité parlementaire de Farba Ngom officiellement levée
The National Assembly of Senegal voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of MP Farba Ngom by a large majority on Monday, February 16, 2026. The vote resulted in 108 votes in favor, 21 against and no abstentions, out of a total of 129 voters (for 165 registered MPs).
This decision follows a request filed by the Ministry of Justice. The ongoing legal proceedings concern the alleged introduction of two mobile phones into the parliamentarian's cell, who was already in custody at the time of the incident.
Thanks to this vote, the judicial authorities now have free rein to pursue their investigations without the constraints linked to the elected official's parliamentary status. The investigation aims to establish the exact circumstances under which these prohibited items were brought into the prison, an offense punishable by law.
