Affaire Lat Diop : Cheikh Oumar Talla et Maty Sarr Niang déclarés coupables de diffamation
The Pikine High Court has delivered its verdict in the case opposing political leader Lat Diop to Cheikh Oumar Talla and Maty Sarr Niang.
The court found Cheikh Oumar Talla and Maty Sarr Niang guilty of defaming Lat Diop. They were sentenced to three (3) months in prison, suspended.
This decision by the Pikine court upholds the defamation charges brought against the two defendants. The case originated from a Facebook post attributed to Maty Sarr Niang, claiming that Lat Diop, former director general of the Senegalese National Lottery (Lonase), had reimbursed "5 billion CFA francs to the State of Senegal" in connection with a case of alleged embezzlement of public funds, extortion, and money laundering, leaving "2 billion" still owed.
Cheikhou Oumar Talla had taken up and commented live on the controversial publication on his channel, going so far as to declare that "Lonase was managed like a cash cow under the direction of Lat Diop".
