AA Diop, the manager of a travel agency in Grand Mbao, has been in police custody at the Zac Mbao district police station since last Friday. He is being prosecuted for forgery and use of forged private documents in a case involving the Belgian embassy in Senegal.

It all started with an alert from the Belgian embassy.

It all began when MD Youm, branch manager of Prévoyance Assurance in Keur Massar, received a request for clarification from his superiors. The issue: a signature allegedly attributed to him on an insurance document sent by the Belgian embassy in Senegal.

Intrigued, the complainant conducted checks and discovered that his signature and his agency's stamp had been forged. After further investigation, he identified the alleged perpetrator of this forgery: AA Diop, manager of a travel agency in Zac Mbao, for whom he had recently issued a genuine travel insurance policy on behalf of a client.

The scheme took shape when the suspect, AA Diop, in possession of a genuine travel insurance policy issued by MD Youm, scanned it for reuse by a third party. He then imitated the agency manager's signature and falsified the document.

The client in question then submits his visa application to the Belgian embassy, where the fraudulent nature of the travel insurance is quickly detected by consular agents.

The embassy then contacted the management of Prévoyance Assurance, which requested explanations from the manager of the Keur Massar agency whose insurance and signature had been forged.

It was at this moment that MD Youm filed a complaint against AA Diop at the Zac Mbao district police station.

Summoned and questioned by investigators, the suspect AA Diop admitted to the charges against him. He stated that he had scanned the genuine insurance policy and forged the plaintiff's signature to create a false document for his client.

After notification to the prosecutor of the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court, Saliou Dicko, the investigation continues to determine the extent of this case and establish if there are other victims of this fraudulent process.
