Tentative de corruption et outrage à agent : Un chauffeur déféré au parquet de Dakar
Driver Aliou Diouf was taken to the Dakar prosecutor's office by officers from the Parcelles-Assainies district police station. He was arrested yesterday for attempted bribery and insulting a police officer in the performance of his duties.
The events took place at intersection 22, where an officer from the traffic company of the central police station in Dakar was conducting a traffic control.
This is how Aliou Diouf was arrested at the wheel of his Citroën C4, registration number AA 662 MB. Police officer Babacar Sangna noted that the vehicle's windshield was cracked, constituting a violation of the Highway Code.
As the officer was about to issue him a ticket, Mr. Diouf tried to give him 1,000 CFA francs to avoid the penalty. The officer immediately rejected his offer.
According to the investigation, the suspect then adopted a hostile attitude, making remarks deemed disrespectful towards the officer. He stated that other police officers were accepting money, adding that he had been doing so since the morning to get through checks.
When questioned at the scene, Aliou Diouf was taken to the police station and placed in custody. During questioning, he admitted to offering 1,000 CFA francs to avoid receiving a ticket. He also admitted to making inappropriate remarks to the officer.
The latter confirmed the facts, specifying that he had refused any attempt at corruption before proceeding to arrest the man.
At the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, Aliou Diouf was brought before the public prosecutor at the Dakar court who will decide his fate.
