Mr. Mbacké N. appeared before the Mbour High Court, in the summary proceedings hearing, for a case of quackery and witchcraft. Moustapha F. accuses him of having swindled him out of the substantial sum of 7.5 million CFA francs under the guise of prayers and occult practices.

According to the plaintiff, it all started with a highly coveted field. After being put in contact with the defendant, Moustapha F. claims to have met him at the Nguekhokh camp before taking him to the field.

"He did his practices and I saw results. Then I had a final; I again asked for his prayers and I obtained the expected results," he says, explaining that this trust led him to accept the numerous financial requests that followed.

Alms of one million, then 3.5 million, 2.8 million, holy water, special prayers and unusual demands, including a completely black guinea fowl that could not be found, were said to have marked this relationship.

At each stage, new sums were allegedly paid, up to a total of 7,500,000 FCFA.

The dispute reached a climax when the plaintiff claimed to have received a briefcase supposedly containing the fruits of prayers. Upon opening it, only two euro banknotes and the rest blank sheets of paper were found.

In court, Mr. Mbacké N. denies any fraud. He admits to having received 1,500,000 FCFA, but only for prayers intended for the field.

"I never handed over a briefcase, nor did I deceive anyone," he defended himself.

The defense, led by Mr. Oumar Sène, argues that there were no fraudulent maneuvers.

"He is in a risky profession. When the results are not there, we talk about fraud. The plaintiff freely accepted," the lawyer stated.
