Charged with statutory rape and rape resulting in pregnancy, marabout Mame Cheikh Fall, better known as Borom Mizane, will learn his fate on August 28. According to Les Échos, which provided the information, the Indictment Division of the Dakar Court of Appeal is expected to rule that day on the prosecutor's request, which challenges the accused's current provisional release under electronic monitoring.

The facts date back to last July, when the marabout was arrested by the Dieuppeul police station, following a complaint filed by the uncle of the victim, a minor teenager, the newspaper rewinds.

According to the complainant, quoted by Les Echos, the young girl was hypnotized by the healer while she was going to his home to collect traditional medicines for her ailing mother, before being sexually abused. The victim reportedly confirmed these accusations during her hearing.

A gynecological examination carried out at the Idrissa Pouye Hospital in Grand-Yoff revealed an old defloration as well as an ongoing pregnancy of 24 weeks.

Facing the victim's family, Mame Cheikh Fall acknowledged being the father of the unborn child and apologized. However, he stated to investigators that he had a consensual relationship with the girl.

Despite the seriousness of the facts, the investigating judge granted him provisional release under electronic monitoring, a decision immediately contested by the prosecution, which had initially requested a detention warrant.

On August 28, the Indictment Chamber will therefore have to decide: confirm the provisional release or order the marabout's imprisonment.
