Caricature du président Diomaye : Daouda Ndiaye de Feeling Dakar sanctionné
Daouda Ndiaye, also known as "Daouda Waly," 35, a technician at the news website Feeling Dakar, appeared before the Dakar Magistrates' Court on Monday for insulting the head of state and making offensive remarks. The defendant had posted a photomontage of the head of state on Feeling Dakar's Facebook page following the general assembly of the DiomayePrésident coalition.
In court, Daouda Ndiaye admitted to the charges against him. "I saw a caricature of President Diomaye Faye that had been published on Facebook. As I am the administrator of the Feeling Dakar page, I reposted it with the comment: 'At least I…' I have no experience in journalism. I captured the image from a Facebook page before reposting it. I made a mistake and I apologize," he stated.
In his submissions, the public prosecutor requested the application of the law by seeking a sentence of two years imprisonment, including three months of mandatory imprisonment, accompanied by a fine of 300,000 CFA francs.
Led by lawyers Aboubacry Barro and Ibamar Diop, the defense pleaded for leniency from the court.
At the end of the proceedings, the court found Daouda Ndiaye guilty of the charges and sentenced him to two months imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 CFA francs.
