Condamnée pour escroquerie : la prévenue se faisait passer pour la soeur de Ousmane Sonko
The Dakar flagrante delicto court found Mr. Manding, 51, guilty of fraud. According to Les Échos, which attended the hearing, she had posed as the sister of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in order to deceive a shopkeeper, Yacine Lô.
This is how the accused managed to convince the alleged victim to hand over a shipment of dates worth 7 million CFA francs, claiming to have obtained a government contract for the distribution of the goods. After the transaction, she remained unreachable.
During her trial, the defendant denied introducing herself as Ousmane Sonko's sister, explaining that a third person, named Amina, called her that. As quoted by Les Echos, she also justified her communication difficulties by being in an area without network coverage.
Despite her denials, Manding was found guilty. She was given a three-month suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay 7 million CFA francs in damages to the civil party, Les Echos reports.
