The Senegalese Independence and Labor Party (PIT-Senegal) issued a statement on October 26, 2025, expressing its bitterness and indignation at the "continued deterioration of the political, economic and social situation" in the country under the current regime, led by the PASTEF party.

The PIT denounces a government which, according to it, does not take "the measure of the deplorable state in which the world of work finds itself", we can read in the note.

This statement is based on the indictment made at the general assembly of the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor (FDR), held on October 15, 2025. The PIT describes the government's policy as "anti-social and anti-worker."

The party highlights several signs of inaction and "provocative distrust of the government towards trade union organisations", citing in particular:

- The delay in the publication of the decree establishing the steering committees for the implementation of the National Social Stability Pact;

- The procrastination surrounding the signing of decrees that have been negotiated, in particular those relating to the status of decision-makers in the civil service and senior health technicians;

- The categorical refusal to reinstate workers who have been victims of arbitrary dismissals, while pursuing a policy of "partisan, nepotistic and clientelist recruitment", illustrated by the cases of the Autonomous Port of Dakar and the Grand Théâtre.

Strategic sectors in crisis and new tax pressure

Beyond social demands, the PIT warns of the national economic situation, which it describes as "catastrophic." Strategic sectors are said to be "deeply shaken and on the verge of collapse," due in particular to the failure to settle domestic debt, taxes deemed excessive, and customs duties described as exorbitant.

Among the sectors cited: construction, hotels, agri-food, Air Senegal and the energy sector. These difficulties, according to the PIT, are reflected in salary delays, technical or permanent layoffs, and a continuous increase in the cost of living.

The Communist Party also denounces the "generalization of a new tax burden" imposed to finance the so-called "endogenous" Economic and Social Recovery Plan, as well as "predictable anti-social measures" in the context of negotiations with the IMF.

Faced with this situation, which the PIT attributes to the "amateurism, incompetence and populist demagogy" of the regime, the party reaffirms its "unconditional support and active solidarity" with the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor.

The PIT calls for a "resolute struggle, in the broadest unity" of political, trade union, and popular forces. According to the PIT, the FDR's national march scheduled for October 31, 2025, must constitute "the first milestone in a process of popular, republican, heroic, and victorious resistance against a regime rife with strong dictatorial tendencies," the note concludes.
