Procès en diffamation : le maire de Palmarin condamné

The High Court of Fatick has issued its ruling in the case between the mayor of Palmarin and the family of Jean Maxime Ndiaye. The mayor, Singui Sarr, was found guilty of defamation and public insults.

He was thus sentenced to three months' imprisonment, suspended. He will also have to pay five million CFA francs to François Ndiaye, father of Jean Maxime Ndiaye, as damages.

The case originated from public statements by the mayor accusing François Ndiaye of financial misappropriation. The family considered these accusations serious and decided to take legal action to defend their honor.

During the proceedings, according to sources close to the case, the mayor of Palmarin reportedly struggled to substantiate his claims, revealing a lack of understanding of the rules governing public property. These elements failed to convince the court.

This legal setback may not be the mayor's last. Another defamation trial is scheduled. This time, the action is being brought directly by Jean Maxime Ndiaye. The hearing is set for June 2026.

This new legal step will be closely scrutinized in the municipality of Palmarin, where the case continues to provoke strong reactions.
