Demande d’extradition de Madiambal Diagne : le délibéré connu ce mardi
The legal saga between the Senegalese state and journalist and businessman Madiambal Diagne has reached a decisive turning point. Barring a last-minute postponement, the Versailles Court of Appeal is expected to deliver its ruling this Tuesday, March 3, regarding Dakar's extradition request, according to Libération.
The newspaper specifies that following the hearing on February 2nd, the judges must decide between two diametrically opposed positions. On one side, Madiambal Diagne's defense is requesting the outright dismissal of the extradition request, citing political motivations and risks to fundamental rights. On the other, the State of Senegal maintains that it has provided the procedural guarantees required by the French court to secure his repatriation.
In any case, the same source emphasizes, this decision comes in a context of easing tensions in the Senegalese judicial system. The case, linked in particular to a report by the CENTIF (Financial Intelligence Unit), had led to the imprisonment of several of the journalist's relatives. Since then, his wife, Mabintou Diagne, as well as his sons, Mohamed and Sérigne Saliou, have been granted provisional release.
As for Serigne Omar Mbaye, the last suspect still detained for criminal conspiracy, he was recently released by the Supreme Court of Senegal. At this stage, no one else remains in custody in Senegal in this case.
