Déploiement policier : L'Ussein emboîte le pas à l’Ucad
Like Cheikh Anta Diop University, the University of Sine Saloum El Hadji Ibrahima Niass has also deployed law enforcement. In a statement signed by the Rector, Professor Diégane Diouf, the academic council said it had "issued a favorable opinion for maintaining the security measures on the Kaolack campus."
According to the memo, in addition to disturbing public order, the students threatened the safety of people and property. Last Monday, the memo adds, hooded individuals attempted to set fire to staff transport vehicles. Faced with this situation, the Rector requested the intervention of law enforcement to restore calm before seeking the approval of the academic council to maintain the security measures, in accordance with university autonomy.
In its meeting this Wednesday, December 3, via videoconference, the council went in the direction desired by the Rector with regard to the extension of the student strike and their determination to block educational and research activities.
The governing body is therefore inviting students to engage in dialogue. It states that it is ready to support them in their demands, but campus security remains non-negotiable.
