Affaire Doudou Wade : Le front des anciens présidents de groupes parlementaires fait bloc
A delegation representing fifteen former parliamentary group leaders of the National Assembly visited the home of Doudou Wade, the elder statesman, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. This visit of solidarity followed the former parliamentary leader's recent hearing before the courts, a procedure that resulted in his release, although he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
This approach is in response to a collective initiative by his former peers, determined to support and assist their colleague through this ordeal.
“We came first to greet him and his family, but above all to express our full support,” said Abdou Mbow, spokesperson for the delegation. He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to raising national and international awareness of what they consider a matter that goes beyond Doudou Wade’s personal case and strikes at the very foundations of Senegalese democracy.
Beyond the gesture of camaraderie, the parliamentarians present denounced what they described as a "worrying trend." According to them, summoning political figures or media professionals to express their opinions in 2026 represents a step backward for Senegal.
“Senegal is a great democracy, a country of freedoms won at the cost of long struggles. We cannot remain silent in the face of situations that could weaken the rule of law,” argued the opposition MP, calling for strict respect for fundamental freedoms.
By reaffirming their commitment to stand by Doudou Wade "today as tomorrow", the former presidents of parliamentary groups stressed that their fight is part of a global defense of the rule of law.
This visit marks a key step in a case that continues to crystallize tensions between the political class and the judiciary, in a national context where the issue of public freedoms remains the focus of citizen debate.
