Gambie : Huit Sénégalais libérés après l’intervention d’Amadou Chérif Diouf
On the sidelines of an official mission to Gambia organised on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the Secretary of State in charge of Senegalese abroad, Amadou Chérif Diouf, obtained the release of eight Senegalese compatriots detained in Banjul for minor offences.
According to a note seen by Seneweb, the individuals in question regained their freedom after full payment of the fines that had kept them in detention.
In addition, financial support was provided to enable them to return to their families, while instructions were given to ensure their psychosocial care upon their return.
Amadou Chérif Diouf was received by the Gambian Vice-President, Muhammed BS Jallow, as well as by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie.
These hearings provided an opportunity to address issues of common interest, including border management, dual nationality, the fight against irregular migration and the promotion of circular migration between Senegal and The Gambia.
