Verdict de fer à Pikine-Guédiawaye : 5 ans de prison ferme et 3 millions d’amende pour deux homosexuels
While Pape Cheikh Diop and his co-defendants were being brought before the prosecutor's office in Pikine-Guédiawaye, two other individuals were appearing before the court of summary jurisdiction. The defendants were sentenced to five years in prison for indecent or unnatural acts, and each fined 1.5 million CFA francs.
The defendants are Amadou Ba, a young man denounced by his own brother, and his partner, Gora Diakhaté. Placed in pretrial detention on January 20, 2026, they admitted to the charges against them, stating that they acted out of desire. Amadou Ba attempted to plead insanity to seek leniency from the court, while Gora promised never to engage in such acts again.
In his submissions, the prosecutor requested the maximum sentence, namely five years of imprisonment and a fine of one million FCFA for each of them.
Ibrahima Diop, Amadou Ba's lawyer, stated that he did not condone the charges against his client, but argued for the application of Article 50 of the Penal Code concerning mental incapacity, requesting the court's understanding. Gora Diakhaté, who was not represented by a lawyer, asked for leniency.
Delivering his verdict, the judge followed the prosecution's line of reasoning by declaring the defendants guilty of the charges against them.
