Interpellation de Maïmouna Ndour Faye et de Babacar Fall : Le FDR appelle à une grande manifestation pour dénoncer la répression des journalistes
Faced with what it calls "brutal excesses of the PASTEF regime", the Front for Democracy and the Republic (FDR) has announced the organization of a large demonstration of the people, on Friday, October 31 at 3 p.m., at the Jet d'Eau roundabout, in Dakar.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 29, the opposition coalition denounced a "repressive escalation" targeting journalists and media outlets. The FDR accused the government of mobilizing armed forces to raid the offices of 7TV and RFM, whose broadcasts were subsequently suspended on digital terrestrial television (DTT). Two prominent journalists, Maimouna Ndour Faye and Babacar Fall, were reportedly "assaulted, arrested, and imprisoned," according to the statement.
The front believes that no official justification has been given for these arrests and condemns the regime's desire to "silence all critical voices." "No law prohibits journalists from interviewing a wanted person," the FDR points out, alluding to a recent controversy surrounding an interview with Madiambal Diagne.
The movement is therefore calling on all Senegalese to mobilize massively to "defend hard-won democratic freedoms" and "thwart intimidation".
The statement emphasizes that this demonstration is part of a unified movement, with several opposition parties and movements having decided to join it.
