He lost two fingers. Student Aly Babacar Ndiaye was attempting to handle a tear gas grenade during the demonstrations at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar. Determined to retaliate against the security forces, he was killed when the grenade exploded in his hands.
According to Seneweb, as announced by the public prosecutor during his press briefing this Tuesday, the Dakar Central Police Station's Urban Security Unit is continuing its investigation. Aly Babacar Ndiaye, currently hospitalized at Dakar's Principal Hospital, has been questioned by investigating officers.
In his statement, he said that a student had taken the grenade from his bag and given it to him. According to initial findings of the investigation, this grenade was not part of the police's inventory.
