Justice : mauvaise nouvelle pour Farba Ngom
Just as he was about to be granted provisional release, Farba Ngom, the deputy-mayor of Agnam, has had his prison stay extended. Les Échos reports that the Attorney General's financial office filed an appeal on Tuesday, the day before the six-day legal deadline expired, thus freezing the execution of the indictment chamber's ruling, which was favorable to the APR official.
Three-month reprieve at the Supreme Court
This last-minute appeal has an immediate suspensive effect: Farba Ngom remains in prison. According to the daily newspaper, the Supreme Court now has a legal deadline of three months to rule on this appeal.
The same source highlights a degree of inconsistency in the Prosecutor's approach: the latter had not appealed the provisional release order concerning his co-defendant, Tahirou Sarr, thus reinforcing suspicions of selective, or even political, treatment of the Farba Ngom case.
