Four individuals identified as S. Kobar (a dockworker), Kh. S. (a merchant), O. S. (a merchant), and O. Diop (a driver) appeared yesterday before the Kaffrine High Court, charged with the theft and handling of stolen sacks of peanuts. S. Kobar, the main defendant, denied the allegations against him.
According to his testimony, he does not know the driver O. Diop, but does know the merchant Kh. S. However, he claimed he never sold any peanuts to him. This was disputed by the merchant Kh. S., who stated he purchased the sacks of peanuts from S. Kobar and subsequently resold them to O. S., with whom he shares a shop. O. S. also denied purchasing peanuts from Kh. S.
The court found S. Kobar guilty and sentenced him to three months in prison. As for Kh. S., he received a six-month suspended sentence and a fine of 970,000 CFA francs, to be paid jointly with S. Kobar. The driver O. Diop and the merchant O. S. were acquitted due to reasonable doubt.
