KM50 : un pêcheur envoyé en prison pour vol de ferraille
A. Faye appeared in court in Thiès on Monday for theft of scrap metal belonging to I. Ciss.
The plaintiff explained that they caught the defendant filling his bag with scrap metal at his construction site. According to the plaintiff, an altercation broke out when he tried to leave with the bag, before neighbors intervened to separate them.
The defendant denied this. He claimed he went to the construction site to get a drink of water. However, he admitted that his bag contained scrap metal he had collected outside the site, intending to resell it to pay for its transport to Diourbel, as he had no money.
The public prosecutor requested that the charges be reclassified as attempted theft and sought a two-month prison sentence.
After deliberation, the court upheld the charge of attempted theft and sentenced A. Faye to one month in prison. He must also pay a fine of 50,000 FCFA.
