«Leur statut passe à celui d’otage…» : Me Kabou, avocat des supporters sénégalais détenus au Maroc, assène ses vérités
The Senegalese fans detained in Morocco were brought before the prosecutor's office this Thursday. One of their lawyers, Patrick Kabou, gave an update. He is bitter. For him, his clients' status has now changed from that of fans to that of hostages.
"Our 18 compatriots in pre-trial detention in Rabat (Morocco), questioned without a Wolof interpreter, presented (referred) to the King's prosecutor without a Wolof interpreter, and who, until the moment these notes are transmitted, do not know what they are accused of, are hostages in the legal sense of the term because they are deprived of their right to defend themselves," he insisted.
For Mr. Kabou, this constitutes a "hostage-taking, coupled with restrictions that shamefully and unscrupulously violate international agreements on fair trials, respect for the rights of the defense, and the rights of detainees." The lawyer warns that whatever happens to these detainees will be the sole and entire responsibility of "those who have chosen to deprive them of their right to defend themselves before the law."
