On Monday, January 5, the Financial Indictment Chamber issued a ruling in favor of Mabintou Diaby and Mouhamed Diagne, the wife and son of journalist Madiambal Diagne. Overturning the order of the Senior Judge, the court granted their provisional release under house arrest with electronic monitoring bracelets, subject to strict surveillance measures: a ban on leaving their residence without authorization, surrender of their passports, and a prohibition on contacting other individuals involved in the case, including Madiambal Diagne.
However, Les Échos points out that their release from prison is not yet official. The final decision rests with the Public Prosecutor's Office, which has the right to appeal. "Before they can breathe the air of freedom and submit to its conditions, the Public Prosecutor's Office must refrain from filing an appeal," the same source insists.
