Borom Daraadji : Le Savant
To continue the work of his predecessors by distinguishing himself, in particular, in the transmission of knowledge. Such was the priesthood, during his Khalifat, from 1997 to 2012, of Sheikhal Seydi Muhammadoul Mansour Sy Boroom Daraadji, who devoted his entire life to the Sharia and the Sunnah of the Best of Beings, the Prophet Mohammed (PSL).
The son of Sheikhal Khalifa Ababacar Sy, grandson of Maodo, acceded to the Khalifat on September 14, 1997, following the recall to God of Serigne Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh. Coming from a prestigious double lineage, that of the founder of the Senegalese Tidianiyya through his father and that of the great Lebou families of the Cape Verde peninsula through his mother, Sokhna Aïssatou Seck, Serigne Mansour Sy, born and trained in Tivaouane, very early on, found a definitive anchorage in the religious city by putting himself at the service of the Tariqa Tidiane and the legacy of his grandfather, Maodo Malick.
One of his former chamberlains, Serigne Ndiassé Guèye, recounts that Borom Daraadji had the honor of holding the seal of the Khalifat even before becoming General Khalif of the Tidianes. According to this grandson of Serigne Alioune Guèye, "Mame Dabakh had entrusted him, even before his recall to God, with the secret of the Tidiane Khalifat (Siiroul Khilaafa), recognizing in him a natural authority and a great capacity for unification."
Throughout his life, Serigne Mansour Sy embodied scholarship, peace, and the transmission of knowledge. Always elegant and refined in his attire, the successor to Mame Abdoul Aziz Sy Dabakh, as General Caliph of Tidianes in 1997, was a discreet but influential leader, committed to social stability and the preservation of religious values.
The nickname "Boroom Daraadji," after Serigne Ndiassé Guèye, comes from the central role he played in the direction of the great "daara" of Tivaouane, founded by his grandfather, by participating in the training of several great scholars of Islam in Senegal. A true educator, he saw the transmission of religious knowledge as a sacred duty, a heritage to be protected and enriched.
The testimony of his father, Serigne Babacar Sy, perfectly sums up his personality. "Erudition, the transmission of knowledge, sharing, and acts of kindness are your intrinsic qualities," his father told him, recalls Ndiassé Guèye. A great scholar who, throughout his teaching, upheld the values of peace and stability.
Beyond his rhetoric, Serigne Mansour Sy distinguished himself through concrete actions for social cohesion. In times of political tension, he strove to calm antagonisms, often with the utmost discretion, but always effectively. His discreet yet decisive interventions in the search for peace in Casamance are particularly remembered. Careful never to politicize his positions, Boroom Daraadji constantly emphasized that "the country does not belong to politicians," recalls Ndiassé Guèye.
And also to inform that Serigne Mansour Sy had personally traveled to this region in the south of the country, calling for prayer and praying himself for the return of peace.
