Affaire Madiambal Diagne : son épouse et son fils devant la Chambre d’accusation lundi
Madiambal Diagne's wife, Mabintou Diaby, and his son, Mouhamed, are keeping their fingers crossed. Les Échos reports that the Financial Indictment Chamber of the Financial Judicial Pool (PJF) is examining, this Monday, the appeal filed by their lawyers against the order refusing their provisional release, a decision issued on December 3rd by investigating judge Idrissa Diarra.
The defense had notably requested release on medical grounds, citing the concerning health condition of Mabintou Diaby, recently transferred to Fann Hospital, as well as the guarantees of appearance presented by their clients. These arguments, however, failed to convince the investigating magistrate.
While Mabintou Diaby and Mouhamed Diagne remain in custody, the younger son, Serigne Saliou Diagne, was placed under judicial supervision last month, a decision that surprised many: the latter had never been involved in the management of the family company, the newspaper notes.
The daily newspaper reports that members of the Diagne family were charged and imprisoned following a report by the Financial Intelligence Unit (CENTIF) concerning the real estate company SCI Pharaon. The financial prosecutor's office suspects the payment of kickbacks amounting to several billion CFA francs. These proceedings, initiated after Madiambal Diagne fled to France, are perceived by his relatives as a means of pressure to force the head of the "Avenir Communication" group to return to the country, the same source adds.
