Mahamadou Mansour Mbaye, Président Cour Suprême : « Le droit humain repose sur l’égalité et la dignité de tous »

At the formal opening of the judicial year this Thursday, the President of the Supreme Court, Mamadou Mansour Mbaye, focused his remarks on the role of human rights, equality among citizens, and the contemporary challenges facing the justice system. Addressing the Head of State, judicial authorities, government officials, institutional partners, and members of the academic community, the judge reiterated that the law cannot be separated from human dignity, emphasizing that equality before the law remains the very foundation of any democratic society.

For the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, human rights are neither a passing phenomenon nor a product of political circumstances. They are part of a lasting, universal, and timeless perspective. "Human rights are inseparable from the equality of humankind," he insisted, calling for a justice system that protects without discrimination, that unites, and that guarantees every citizen respect for their fundamental rights. He also emphasized the judge's particular responsibility in preserving these principles in a world marked by rapid social, technological, and economic changes.

Justice, education and social responsibility

The magistrate also highlighted the central role of legal education and raising public awareness of the law. According to Mahamadou Mansour Mbaye, the justice system cannot be fully effective without a better understanding of legal rules by the population, particularly among young people. He advocated for strengthening educational support mechanisms, believing that prevention, information, and education are essential tools for reducing injustices and strengthening citizens' trust in the judicial system.

The challenge of digital technology and modernization

Addressing contemporary challenges, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court spoke about the digital transformation of the justice system, calling for a controlled and responsible modernization. While digital technology offers opportunities for efficiency and access to justice, it must never weaken the fundamental principles of law or the human dimension of the judicial process. He reminded the audience that judges remain, above all, guarantors of liberties, called upon to exercise their duties with independence, rigor, and integrity. Mahamadou Mansour Mbaye reaffirmed the essential mission of the judicial institution: to serve humanity through the law, guarantee equality, protect the most vulnerable, and strengthen the rule of law.
