«Marché de 64 milliards F CFA» : interdit de sortie, l’homme d’affaires Thierno Bâ renforce sa défense
The renowned businessman Thierno Bâ received notification last Thursday of a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country. The decision was issued by the judge of the fourth financial chamber who, at the request of the financial prosecutor's office, opened a judicial inquiry targeting the businessman. Libération, which broke the story, reports that his brother, O. Bâ, is also affected by the investigating magistrate's order.
Without naming the lawyers involved, the newspaper reports that "Thierno Bâ, who formally denies the facts in question, has already gathered several lawyers to ensure his defense."
The judicial investigation by the judge of the fourth chamber, according to the same source, targets criminal conspiracy, embezzlement of public funds, tax fraud, misuse of company assets, and money laundering. If Libération is to be believed, it relates to a 64 billion CFA franc contract awarded to Thierno Bâ under the previous regime and highlighted in a CENTIF report.
The case led to the businessman being detained at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) last week as he was preparing to fly to France. He was taken to the DIC (Criminal Investigation Division) and then released upon summons. It was upon his return to the DIC last Thursday that Thierno Bâ formally learned that he is prohibited from leaving Senegal.
