In Mbour, the Ratib imam of the great mosque of Château d'Eau Nord, A. Hanne, 64, was cleared after a month in detention for a fraud case orchestrated by his own son. According to L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, it all started with an order for cement and iron worth 47.6 million CFA francs, placed in March 2024 by the imam's son with the supplier IS Diallo. The latter, accustomed to dealing with the family, delivered the goods before discovering that the check he handed over was bad. The young man then fled to Côte d'Ivoire, points out the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
Believing that the imam remained responsible for his son's actions, the same source added, the shopkeeper filed a complaint. In September, the cleric was arrested and then imprisoned, shocking the entire community.
During the trial, the imam denied any involvement, explaining that his son had long since ceased to manage his business. After reviewing the case, the court concluded that the link of responsibility between father and son had not been established, and acquitted the imam outright. The supplier, whose claim was dismissed, left without a refund, L'Observateur added.
