Affaire Pape Cheikh Diallo : le procureur face à une grosse équation
The case of the twelve people arrested, notably for alleged acts against nature, continues to cause a stir. According to Seneweb, which broke the story, the accused will be brought before the prosecutor at the Pikine-Guédiawaye court this Monday. They are being prosecuted for criminal conspiracy, acts against nature, intentional transmission of HIV, and endangering the lives of others.
As the investigation by the Keur Massar research brigade continues, with further arrests expected, according to the media, the prosecutor of Pikine-Guédiawaye, Saliou Dicko, is faced with a major challenge: "Beyond the criminal charges retained at this stage of the procedure, the question of the health management [of the suspects] in the environment arises acutely," L'Observateur points out.
Eight of the twelve people arrested have been declared HIV-positive. The daily newspaper of the Future Media Group reports that "the prosecutor's preferred option would be to subject those infected to appropriate medical treatment, in a controlled environment, in order to break any chain of transmission, both between inmates and with prison staff."
"The idea," the newspaper continues, "is to consider supervised health isolation measures, strictly for therapeutic and non-disciplinary purposes, respecting human dignity and medical confidentiality."
But these health precautions, which are "obligations of the State in matters of public health and human rights," are not without risk. They are likely to "encounter strong pressure, in a context where the case is generating a strong reaction in public opinion," warns L'Observateur.
