Parti socialiste : vers une nouvelle plainte
The Dakar Court has delivered its verdict in the dispute between dissident activists of the Socialist Party (PS) and the party leadership, led by Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye and Co.
The proceedings were declared void for "substantive irregularities," meaning the dissidents did not immediately win their case.
However, for Amadou Sow, secretary general of the Socialist Youth Movement and member of the Political Bureau, quoted by Les Echos, this decision is a half-victory. He believes that it shows them the way forward: they have the opportunity to take the matter to court again by correcting the procedural irregularities.
Sow claims that the goal is to bring the party leadership back to orthodoxy and respect for the texts, which stipulate that the Congress and the Central Committee are the decision-making bodies. He denounces a situation where "a bunch of friends, 80-year-olds" decide in place of the majority, and promises that they will form a collective of activists (and no longer as an unrecognized entity like the IRPS) to file a new complaint and request the organization of a congress under the required conditions.
Call for leadership unity
Following the verdict, Socialist Party spokesperson Abdoulaye Wilane called for reconciliation and unity among socialists. He urged activists to "turn the page on this judicial episode" and work toward becoming a renewed socialist family.
Amadou Sow downplayed these messages, seeing them as "manoeuvres" and "speeches to lull [them] to sleep", and reaffirmed his determination to see the legal proceedings through to the end if their demands were not met.
