Procès en appel : Serigne Mboup et deux membres du bureau de la Chambre de commerce de Dakar se retrouvent le ...
The legal battle between businessman Serigne Mboup and two members of the board of the Dakar Chamber of Commerce - Abdel Kader Ndiaye (vice-president) and Bruno Derneville (deputy treasurer) - continues on appeal.
The case, initiated in 2021, was discussed this Monday, November 17, before the Dakar Court of Appeal, but was adjourned to January 19, 2026, due to the absence of the parties.
In its Tuesday edition, Les Échos reports that Serigne Mboup had served a direct summons on 11 members of the board for defamation. He accuses them of publishing a resolution in the press describing him as "incompetent and dangerous," thus tarnishing his reputation. The plaintiff was seeking 1 billion CFA francs in damages.
Quoted by the same newspaper, the defendants deny having personally defamed Serigne Mboup, while acknowledging having signed the resolution. They explained that they acted in solidarity with the collective decisions of the bureau.
In the first instance, the judges of the Dakar criminal court had pronounced the outright acquittal of the defendants and dismissed Serigne Mboup's claim, recalls the same source.
