«Sonko moy Diomaye…» : l’auteur de la chanson culte arrêté pour…
Youssoupha Mbaye, also known as "Youssou Bongo," has been arrested and brought before the prosecutor of the Financial Judicial Center (PJF) in connection with a migrant smuggling case. He is the author of "Sonko moy Diomaye…," Diomaye Faye's campaign song for the 2024 presidential election, which he won. The newspaper L'Observateur, which broke the story, reports that he is being prosecuted for criminal conspiracy, attempted migrant smuggling by air, forgery and use of forged documents related to a Belgian residence permit, and fraud.
Youssou Bongo fell from grace following the arrest of a certain Mr. Diop. The newspaper, part of the Future Media Group, reports that this tile setter was apprehended in Rosso, near the Senegalese-Mauritanian border, in possession of a Belgian residency permit issued by a Mr. Aïdara. He was attempting to return to Senegal after a failed trip to Spain, the newspaper reveals.
Diop wanted to return to Spain. He was promised a secure visa application in exchange for 4 million CFA francs, payable upon completion of the trip. Upon reviewing the suspect's documents, the same source continues, officers from the National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNLT) discovered that Mr. Diop had presented himself as a member of Youssou Bongo's musical group.
"Investigators also got hold of the concert posters that were supposed to serve as a cover," reports L'Observateur. "They show the faces of the 'fake musicians' who were fraudulently included."
That's not all. "The seized file also reveals fake bank statements with the letterhead of the Islamic Bank of Senegal (BIS) with a staggering balance of more than 24 million CFA francs," the newspaper reveals.
When questioned about this project, Youssou Bongo swore he had been deceived by Mr. Aïdara. He claimed to investigators that Aïdara had tricked him into participating in a charity concert project in Spain, intended to pay tribute to the victims of the recent floods in that country.
According to his account, he was supposed to perform with seven musicians. He says that at the last minute, Aïdara forced him to include Mr. Diop, who had been arrested in Rosso, Mr. Fall, and SS Thiam in his orchestra, presenting them as "special guests." "I was deceived," he stated.
In addition to Mr. Diop and Youssou Bongo, according to L'Observateur, AA Bâ, head of a travel agency, was arrested. He confessed, admitting to having fabricated the fraudulent bank statements and inserted the "intruders" into the posters.
"Even more disturbing," the newspaper insists, "Bâ reveals that a certain C. Ndiaye regularly acted as a courier to collect the files of the 'clients' of this network."
The trio was brought before the PJF prosecutor's office. Mr. Aïdara, the organizer of the trip, his brother, A. Aïdara, and the courier, C. Ndiaye, are wanted, concludes the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
