The investigation into the two cell phones discovered in Farba Ngom's cell is accelerating. Libération reveals details of the initial hearings.
A phone hidden in a milk jug
The newspaper reports that, contrary to his recent refusal to comment on the technical aspects of the devices, the mayor-MP of Agnam was more cooperative during his initial interrogation. According to the same source, he readily admitted to the facts. He claimed to have smuggled the first phone in himself, confessing to concealing it in a milk jug during his transfer from Rebeuss prison to the Special Pavilion.
The second device at the heart of the suspicions
Regarding the second phone, the same source reports that the official from the APR (Alliance for the Republic, the former ruling party) offered a rather surprising explanation: the device allegedly belonged to prison guard Serigne Abdou Aziz Guèye, who had supposedly "lent" it to him to make a call before "forgetting" to get it back. When questioned, the prison guard—charged and remanded in custody for corruption and smuggling contraband into the prison—confirmed this version, categorically denying having received any financial compensation whatsoever.
The investigators' doubt
These statements, however, did not dispel the investigators' doubts. Farba Ngom subsequently refused to answer questions during a later interrogation, claiming that the technical analysis of the phones had been carried out in his absence and without the presence of his lawyers. A judicial delegation is now expected at the Research Section to continue and expand the investigation, according to the daily newspaper.
