Thiès : Un homme tue son voisin pour un bol de viande, le parquet requiert 5 ans de réclusion criminelle
Mr. M. Ndiaye is being tried this Monday, January 26, 2026, by the Criminal Chamber of the Thiès High Court for the murder of his neighbor, A. Diallo, which occurred during an altercation over a bowl of meat. The events took place in 2022 in Thiès, on the day of Tabaski (Eid al-Adha).
In court, the defendant admitted to the facts, claiming he had not intended to kill the victim. According to his statement, the argument began with a man named Amadou, who had allegedly forbidden him from eating. When A. Diallo intervened, the situation escalated.
Mr. Ndiaye recounts that after an altercation, he went to buy cigarettes at the corner shop. On his way home, he saw A. Diallo waiting for him on his path, armed with a stick. To defend himself, Mr. Ndiaye grabbed a knife and confronted him.
"He hit me with a stick and I retaliated by stabbing him. I don't know how many times I stabbed him because I was under the influence of alcohol. I didn't intend to kill him," he said.
Witness A. Dia confirmed that the blows were struck while the victim was on the ground: "I saw A. Diallo back away with his stick to avoid Mr. Ndiaye's knife. He tripped and fell. It was at that moment that the defendant stabbed him."
The public prosecutor emphasized that the stab wounds had pierced the victim's abdomen, a vital area. He requested that the charges be changed from assassination to murder, arguing that Mr. Ndiaye was guilty of this offense, and sought a five-year prison sentence.
The defense, represented by Mr. Mbodj, argued that the defendant did not intend to kill, citing his state of intoxication and unconsciousness. They requested that the charges be reduced to voluntary assault and battery resulting in death without intent to kill.
The verdict is scheduled for February 23, 2026.
