Tribunal de Thiès : 2 ans ferme requis contre un jakartaman qui a agressé à la machette son client

MS was attacked with a machete by a motorcycle taxi driver he had hired. On the night of the incident, around 2 a.m., MS had hired the motorcycle taxi driver, AL, for a ride, paying 1,000 CFA francs. They left Chez Gaby bar to go to the Orange grocery store in the Diakhao neighborhood. Upon arrival, MS asked the driver to take a side street to drop him off in front of his house. The driver refused. When MS persisted, the driver assumed MS was trying to lure him to the side street to attack him. After a heated argument, AL pulled out a machete and struck MS several times on the head and arms. Severely wounded, MS collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely. The driver got on his motorcycle and fled. It was passers-by who came across the scene and alerted the fire brigade to evacuate the victim to the hospital.

Armed with a medical certificate attesting to a 30-day period of incapacity for work, MS filed a complaint with the police against persons unknown for assault and battery. The detectives' investigation led to the arrest of AL and the witness MD, who was charged with failing to assist an injured person.

In court, the defendant AL admitted to the acts while claiming he believed MS intended to attack him. For his part, MD stated he hadn't seen the victim on the ground.

As for MS, he confided that he was attacked by the two defendants. "They both attacked me. AL had a machete and MD a knife. They both hit me. My body was impenetrable because of my gris-gris. And when they knew this, they cut my talismans so they could reach me," the victim stated.

The public prosecutor found AL guilty of assault and battery and reclassified the charge of failing to assist a person in danger against MD as assault and battery. The prosecutor requested two years' imprisonment for both defendants. The verdict is scheduled for December 2, 2025.
