Tribunal de Thiès : Poursuivi pour tentative de vol, M. Diop plaide l'inconscience
It's unclear what had gotten into Mr. Diop that made him want to steal a Jakarta motorcycle in broad daylight, in full view of everyone. An unemployed driver, this man wanted to solve his financial problems. Finding no other way to make money, he went to the Fahu neighborhood of Thiès to commit a robbery. And when he saw a Jakarta motorcycle parked in front of a house, he approached it to try to steal it. But he was spotted by the neighborhood, who shouted "thief" before arresting him. Charged with attempted robbery by the police, he was then placed in custody.
At the Thiès District Court, Mr. Niang admitted the charges and then led the court to believe he was unconscious at the time of the incident. "I don't even know what drove me to commit this act. I was unconscious. I ask for forgiveness," Mr. Diop said. Considering the facts to be consistent, the public prosecutor requested that the law be applied. The judge sentenced him to one month in prison.
