The Thiès District Court tried a case of theft and receiving stolen goods on Monday, April 13, involving B. C. Diaw and D. Diallo.
According to the charges, B.C. Diaw is accused of stealing a donkey before selling it to D. Diallo for the sum of 30,000 CFA francs. The latter is charged with receiving stolen property.
In court, B.C. Diaw admitted to the facts. He explained that he found the animal wandering near Keur Mor Ndiaye, captured it, and then sold it to D. Diallo. He also claimed this was his first act of theft.
For his part, D. Diallo admitted to buying the donkey but maintained he was unaware of its fraudulent origin. He stated he asked the seller if the animal belonged to him or if he was acting on behalf of a third party and claims he was misled.
The animal's owner, after noticing his donkey was missing, began a search and eventually found it in D. Diallo's possession. He reports that Diallo refused to return the animal without being reimbursed the 30,000 CFA francs. The owner then contacted the gendarmerie.
The public prosecutor deemed the facts established and called for the law to be applied.
At the end of the hearing, the court found both defendants guilty. B. C. Diaw was sentenced to one month in prison, while D. Diallo received a one-month suspended sentence.
