Traduit devant la HCJ : La première réaction de Me Moussa Bocar Thiam
Former Minister of Communication, Maitre Moussa Bocar Thiam, reacted to the National Assembly's announcement that it would refer the case to the High Court of Justice (HCJ) to bring him to trial, denouncing the prosecution as having "no legal basis".
In a statement released this Monday, Mr. Thiam asserts that he has not been the subject of any unfavorable reports from oversight bodies, including the Court of Auditors, the General State Inspectorate (IGE), CENTIF, or the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF). "I am the only minister being prosecuted without any report from these institutions," he insists.
The former minister points out that the Assembly's new internal regulations do not allow for referral to the HCJ, citing Constitutional Council decision no. 2/C/2025 of July 24, 2025, which declared article 134 of the regulations relating to the High Court unconstitutional.
When questioned about the accusations of misappropriation of public funds, Mr. Thiam believes that they are "unfounded" and concern private funds or road works accepted by the competent bodies.
"I am immediately taking professional leave from my international firm in the Gulf to return to Senegal and confront this dying regime," he added, denouncing the government's handling of the assassination of student Abdoulaye Ba and the country's economic difficulties.
Former state judicial agent and lawyer admitted to the bars of Paris and Senegal, Mr. Thiam asserts that "no magistrate can issue a warrant of arrest" against him and that these proceedings do not frighten him.
He concluded: "The diaspora has seen through your schemes. The Senegalese people give no credence to your bogus prosecutions."
