Traite des personnes, proxénétisme : Deux Sierra-Léonaises condamnées à 2 ans de prison ferme
On August 28, 2025, the Mbour High Court sentenced Fatoumata Boundou (29) and Khadidiatou Konté to two years in prison for human trafficking and pimping. The two women, originally from Sierra Leone, were accused of exploiting a minor, A. Camara, by forcing her into prostitution. According to the facts, Fatoumata Boundou lured the victim with the promise of a job. She then took her to Guinea, where she was given false identity documents, before driving her to Senegal and entrusting her to Khadidiatou Konté.
The two defendants forced A. Camara into prostitution, demanding that she pay two million CFA francs to a Nigerian national nicknamed "Diamond." The victim became pregnant during this exploitation. On June 25, 2025, A. Camara reported her tormentors to the Saly police station, detailing her ordeal. During the hearing, the defendants denied the facts, claiming not to know each other and citing language barriers, one claiming not to speak French, the other English. However, the testimonies and material evidence convinced the court of their guilt. The prosecutor had requested ten years in prison for human trafficking and pimping, but the court ultimately handed down a two-year prison sentence for each of the defendants.
This conviction is part of Senegal's efforts to combat human trafficking, a persistent phenomenon in the country, as highlighted by the national unit for the fight against human trafficking during the development of its 5th national plan in 2024.
