Tribunal de Thiès : Prison ferme pour un agent QNet
The legal saga against the QNet marketing network in Thiès has come to an end. The Thiès Magistrates' Court has delivered its verdict in the case between student S. Baldé, who was defrauded of 885,000 CFA francs, and two agents of the network.
The scam began when student S. Baldé was contacted by Fatoumata with an enticing offer (vocational training, employment, international visa). During his interview with Malick, he was asked to purchase a QNet product for 885,000 CFA francs as a condition of joining.
After realizing it was a scam, S. Baldé filed a complaint. The two defendants were arrested and charged with fraud. In court, Fatoumata admitted to receiving the funds and handing them over to Malick, a claim he denied.
The judge found both defendants guilty of fraud. The sentences handed down were as follows: Malick was sentenced to one (1) year of imprisonment; Fatoumata was sentenced to six (6) months of suspended imprisonment and fined 100,000 CFA francs.
Furthermore, the Court ordered Malick and Fatoumata to jointly pay the victim (S. Baldé) the sum of 885,000 CFA francs, corresponding to the amount extorted.
