Union des magistrats : trois candidats s'affrontent pour la présidence
Senegalese magistrates are meeting this Saturday, August 9, in a general assembly to elect a new president of the Union of Magistrates of Senegal (UMS) , to replace Ousmane Chimère Diouf, whose mandate is coming to an end.
Three candidates are in the running, according to Les Échos: Cheikh Ba, President of the Chamber at the Dakar Court of Appeal; Mouhamadou Ndiaye Sarr, Deputy Public Prosecutor in Saint-Louis; and Khaoussou Diop, President of the Chamber at the Ziguinchor Court of Appeal.
This election pits two generations against each other, the same source indicates: the more experienced Cheikh Ba and Khaoussou Diop, former secretary general of the UMS, against the younger Mouhamadou Ndiaye Sarr.
In addition to the election, the outgoing president and his team will present their record. The new president will face the challenge of restoring Senegal's justice system to its former reputation, Les Echos analyzes.
