Ziguinchor : Groupe Médias du Sud condamné à payer plus de 45 millions à 3 ex-employés, la direction crie au complot

The management of the Ziguinchor-based Groupe Médias du Sud (GMS) has spoken publicly for the first time regarding a legal case against three of its former employees. The employees filed a complaint for unfair dismissal in 2019, leading to a lengthy legal process, from the Ziguinchor courts to the Court of Appeal, and then to the Supreme Court. At the end of this process, GMS was ordered to pay more than 45 million CFA francs to the plaintiffs.

In June 2025, a bailiff ordered an auction of the group's equipment to enable payment to the beneficiaries. After exhausting all legal avenues to challenge the initial verdict, GMS management decided to speak out "out of a duty to tell the truth and to enlighten the people of Ziguinchor," said Cheikh Tidiane Cissé, the group's information director.

According to him, the accusations of unfair dismissal brought by the three former employees are unfounded and based on false allegations. He disputes in particular their claim that they were poached by other media outlets, as well as the argument that the license issued to GMS by ARTP qualifies the station as a community radio station. "All these arguments used in the case to condemn GMS are false," he stated.

Cheikh Tidiane Cissé goes further, believing that this affair is aimed at bringing about the company's downfall and closure. He also pointed out that the three former employees had never been under contract with media outlets such as Walf TV, 2STV, or RTS before joining GMS.

At a press conference, he claimed to have himself facilitated the integration of some of them into the group, partly thanks to the late Papo Mané, former Walf correspondent in Ziguinchor.

Vous êtes condamnés par la justice à payer; il faut payer. Les argumentations et autres, c'est au tribunal et non dans la presse.
