Visibilité réduite et risques sanitaires : Le désert s'invite au Sénégal pour 72 heures
Senegal is preparing to experience a particularly challenging period of weather. A dense layer of dust, coming directly from the desert, will gradually envelop the entire country starting Saturday evening, February 14th. This meteorological phenomenon is expected to persist until around noon on Tuesday, February 17th, 2026.
The dust storm will first affect the northern localities, notably Matam, Podor, and Saint-Louis, before spreading to the central regions (Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack, Kaffrine). The wave will then reach the east of the country (Tambacounda and Kédougou) and finally cover the western zone, encompassing the regions of Dakar, Thiès, and Louga.
Weather authorities are warning that visibility will be severely reduced, complicating road and air travel. Even more concerning, air quality will deteriorate significantly across the country over the next four days. People with respiratory conditions, children, and the elderly are urged to take extra precautions.
An improvement and gradual dissipation of the particles are expected from midday on Tuesday, February 17.
