We thought the matter was closed. As the controversy began to swell over the identity of the author of the lyrics to the single "Arva," the singer, Jahman, made a statement in L'Observateur to say that he had written the lyrics himself. Mamadou Diop simply commissioned the work, as a tribute to his wife and customs colonel.
This is not the version of Souleymane Faye, one of the co-interpreters of "Arva." "It was Mamadou Diop, Arva Kane's husband, who wrote the song and gave it to Jahman, who, by the way, has a beautiful voice, for the interpretation."
The veteran singer wasn't asked about the issue again. He then went on to emphasize that the hit single is "a song that all generations can relate to. The lyrics and the outfits for the video are very modest."
