Musique : Le chanteur béninois OPA remporte le Prix Découvertes RFI 2026
Good news for Beninese music. The young singer Tossou Paoli, aka OPA, has won the RFI 2026 Discovery Prize. The Bohicon native thus becomes the first Beninese artist to lift this prestigious trophy.
This is a culmination for the singer who was revealed to the general public with his first song "Yélian".
During the long weeks of competition preceding the awarding of this Prize, OPA captivated the jury members and the public with her velvety voice, set against a diverse musical backdrop, blending soul, jazz, afrobeats and traditional Beninese sounds.
"I burst into tears when I received the call from RFI with the news."
The single that played a significant role in his crowning achievement is "Che Che Che", a song inspired by Beninese flirting.
Upon the announcement of his victory, the singer said he was overwhelmed with emotion.
“I was really moved. I burst into tears when I got the call from RFI with the news. It’s the culmination of a whole journey and all the work I’ve done,” he told Bip Radio.
As a reminder, the jury for this year’s RFI Discoveries Prize was composed of 10 members, with French rapper MC Solaar as president.
