Musique : Le vœu pieux de Pape Diouf pour un trio historique avec Youssou Ndour et Baaba Maal
Pape Cheikh Diouf, leader of the "Conscious Generation" and one of the finest voices of his generation, needs no introduction. After writing a glorious chapter in Senegalese music within the legendary group Lemzo Diamono — where he performed iconic songs such as Cocorico, Confiance and Deeg Dath alongside his mentors Lamine Faye and Alioune Mbaye Nder — the artist continues to leave his mark on his era.
Invited to Seneweb this week, Pape Diouf discussed the release of his brand new album, "À vous l'honneur" (The Honor Is Yours). In this album, he revisits his iconic repertoire, offering a skillful blend of pop sounds and pure Mbalax. While the artist says he is fulfilled by his career, he still cherishes a childhood dream: a collaboration with two giants of the African music scene.
When asked about his goals, he expressed his dearest wish: to record a song together with the King of Mbalax, Youssou Ndour, and the King of Yela, Baaba Maal. "I've done everything in my career, I've traveled extensively and performed on stages around the world, but there's only one thing left for me: to record a song as a trio with my greats Youssou Ndour and Baaba Maal. No one can ignore the power of these two beautiful voices, which is why I'm politely asking them to give me this opportunity," he said emotionally.
Beyond the spotlight, Pape Diouf stands out for his humanitarian commitment. Through his humanitarian organization, which he runs with his wife, he carries out numerous social actions, notably through donations to schools in the suburbs of Dakar.
After promoting his album in Senegal, the artist is preparing to embark on a major international tour that will take him to France and the rest of Europe.
