WAFLASH : Les années de mutisme, la réincarnation et les projets en vue

Waflash, the legendary Senegalese music group, is planning a reunion. After years of silence, the group members are planning to get together again. The future of Waflash looks promising, with a new album in the works and a new generation of musicians ready to take over. Senegalese fans can therefore expect a major reunion of the group in the coming years. This announcement was made by Racine Bâ, also known as "Race."

Despite Waflash's decline in recent years, due in part to the dispersal of its members, keyboardist Race affirms that the group's spirit remains intact. "The members of Waflash are somewhat scattered. Some are in Senegal, others like Ma Sané are in Europe. Each of them is pursuing their own projects. But we're still in touch. We get along and discuss plans for a future reunion. The members who remained in Senegal, including my brother Toto and myself, continue to produce music and train young musicians," said Race.

An emblematic group of the Senegalese music scene, Waflash was founded in 1990 in Thiès by a group of 10 childhood friends: Ma Sané (lead vocal), Mamadou Yade aka "Blanc Plume" (vocals and acoustic guitar), Moustapha Guèye aka "Kool-U" (bassist), Cheikhou Bâ aka "Toto" (guitarist), Maguette Thiam aka "Mags" (keyboardist), Racine Bâ aka "Race" (keyboardist), Macodou Ndiaye aka "Ndiaw" (drums), Bougouma Mbengue aka "Gallas" (sabar) and Pape Mamadou Mbaye (sabar / tama).

Waflash was renowned for its bold musical fusion, blending mbalax, jazz, rock, and traditional Senegalese rhythms. Beyond its rich sound, its stage performances were characterized by innovative choreography, which reinforced its artistic identity. This group embodied a generation of musicians open to the world while remaining rooted in Senegalese cultural traditions. It reached its peak in the 2000s with albums like "Yoon wi" and "Gorget."

Waflash has also been recognized for its energetic concerts and innovative stage performances. The group has toured Africa and Europe and collaborated with international artists.

According to Race, Waflash is more than just a music group; it's a school that trains and supports young musicians in Thiès. The group also created the Palais des Arts, a multidisciplinary venue that hosts shows, exhibitions, and cultural activities.

"Waflash is a family, a spirit that continues to live on despite the challenges. It continues to renew itself and pass on its musical know-how to younger generations. The group has found a way to maintain its spirit and creativity by training and producing talented young musicians. The next generation is already here, with artists like my wife Yacine Lam, who is taking over the vocal reins of the Waflash group. There is also Lamine Bâ, Toto's son, who plays keyboards and accompanies artists," Race confided.

Waflash's determination and passion for music are an example to all artists and young people who aspire to a career in music. Race and his colleagues' commitment to maintaining the spirit of the group is commendable, and it is hoped that Waflash will return to the music scene with a new album and concerts.
