CAN 2025 : le CORED appelle les médias à la prudence face à la vague de fausses informations
Following the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Senegal and Morocco, the Council for the Observation of Ethical and Professional Standards in the Media (CORED) is sounding the alarm. The media self-regulatory body is calling on journalists and information professionals to increase their professionalism in the face of the proliferation of misinformation observed on social media and certain digital platforms.
In a statement released Tuesday, CORED said it had observed the viral spread of misleading content, including unverified information, photos, and videos of various kinds, widely shared following the match between the two national teams. This situation was deemed worrying, especially given that sporting excitement can easily escalate into unnecessary tensions.
Preserving peace and relations between peoples
The Council warns the media against disseminating any content that could exacerbate relations between Senegal and Morocco, two countries bound by historical and fraternal cooperation. According to CORED, relaying unfounded or out-of-context information could not only misinform the public but also jeopardize social cohesion and the security of citizens of both nations. "The dissemination of information is never neutral," the institution emphasizes, highlighting the particular responsibility of media professionals in a digital environment characterized by virality and immediacy.
Checking before publishing: an ethical requirement
Faced with the increasing influence of content generated or amplified by artificial intelligence and massively shared on social media, CORED emphasizes the need for rigorous information processing. It urges journalists to systematically verify and cross-check all information before publication, in accordance with the fundamental principles of the profession.
The regulatory body recalls in this regard the provisions of Article 1 of the Charter of Journalists of Senegal, which enshrines the public's right to fair and balanced information, as well as Article 13 of the Press Code, which prohibits the publication of information, documents, images or sounds whose origin is not clearly established.
A call for collective responsibility
Through this solemn appeal, CORED invites all media actors to show restraint, discernment and responsibility, in order to preserve the credibility of the press and to contribute to a peaceful climate, both on the sidelines and outside of sporting competitions.
In a context where information circulates faster than ever, the Council reaffirms that professionalism remains the best defense against disinformation.

Pourtant il y a une grosse communauté marocaine au Sénégal et la plupart des médecins marocains sont formés dans les universités sénégalaises.
