The coming days will be marked by a significant decrease in rainfall across much of Senegal. According to weather forecasts for the 2026 rainy season, a break in rainfall is expected from July 4th to 10th, due to a temporary weakening of monsoon activity.

Analyses of atmospheric conditions indicate a generally stable situation nationwide. This weak monsoon activity will limit the formation of rain and thunderstorm systems across most of the country, thus drastically reducing rainfall events in several regions.

However, precipitation is expected to persist in the southern and southeastern regions, where the humidity in the air will remain high enough to promote the development of thunderstorms.

The North remains under dry conditions

In the northern part of the country, residents can expect stable and dry weather throughout the period. Forecasters are not predicting any significant rainfall. The sky will be mostly clear, with occasional cloud cover that will not significantly impact the weather.

A slight resumption of rain is expected in the Central region.

The central regions of Senegal are expected to experience a continuation of the lull observed in recent days until the morning of July 7th. From that date onward, a slight resumption of rain and thunderstorm activity is anticipated.

Light rains are expected in the regions of Kaffrine, Kaolack and Fatick, as well as neighboring areas, between July 7 and 9. However, these showers are expected to remain isolated and limited.

Kédougou, Tambacounda and Casamance receive more water

The Southeast, particularly the regions of Kédougou and Tambacounda, as well as the whole of Casamance, will benefit from atmospheric conditions that are significantly more favorable for rainfall.

Between July 6 and 10, thunderstorms accompanied by light to locally moderate rain are expected. Meteorological services do not rule out higher rainfall totals in some areas, making these zones the wettest areas in the country during this period.

This pause in rainfall, characteristic of the seasonal evolution of the West African monsoon, will need to be followed with particular attention by farmers and rural stakeholders, as the 2026-2027 agricultural campaign is now underway in several regions of Senegal.
