Guinée : Décès de l’ancien ministre Abdoulaye Porthos Diallo, témoin des heures sombres du régime Sékou Touré

Guinea mourns the loss of one of its distinguished sons. Abdoulaye Porthos Diallo, former minister and diplomat, passed away on January 28, 2026, at the age of 91. Husband of Aïcha Bah-Diallo, former Minister of Education and a respected figure in the education community, he leaves behind the memory of a cultured, courageous man deeply committed to truth.

A remarkable journey

Born in Conakry in 1935, Abdoulaye Porthos Diallo held a doctorate in law and was trained in diplomacy and public service. He served as Secretary of State for Youth and Sports before holding important diplomatic positions, notably as head of mission to the United Nations.

Recognized for his intellectual rigor and sense of justice, he left his mark on the Guinean political and diplomatic scene through his commitment to youth and republican values.

Ten years in the dungeons of Camp Boiro

But Minister Diallo's life was also marked by one of the darkest chapters in Guinean history.

In the aftermath of the Portuguese aggression of November 1970, he was arrested on August 3, 1971, as part of a vast political repression orchestrated by the regime of President Ahmed Sékou Touré.

Imprisoned without trial at the infamous Camp Boiro, a detention and torture center, he spent nearly ten years there before being released in November 1980.

From this ordeal came his now-reference work: "The Minister's Truth - Ten Years in Sékou Touré's Jails", in which he delivers a poignant testimony on the state terror, injustices and suffering endured by thousands of Guineans during this period.

A voice of memory and dignity

Through his career, Abdoulaye Porthos Diallo will remain in the collective memory as a key witness to the excesses of authoritarian power and a tireless defender of historical truth.

His commitment and moral courage made him a respected figure in both political and intellectual circles.

A couple serving the nation

Husband of Mrs. Aïcha Bah-Diallo, former Minister of Education and recognized actor in the promotion of girls' education in Africa, Porthos Diallo formed with her an elite couple, a symbol of competence, patriotism and dedication to Guinea.

National tribute expected

His death marks the loss of a living memory of political repression and of a generation of Guinean intellectuals who paid a heavy price in the quest for freedom and justice.
