Thiès : Décès de El Hadji Djiby Diagne "Mon Parent"
It is with deep sadness that the people of Thiès learned of the passing of El Hadji Djibril Diagne, a great figure of solidarity affectionately known as "Djiby Diagne Mon Rel". An emblematic personality of the railway city, he was celebrated in song by the duo "Djialy bou nioul" on their album entitled "Mbéry".
Originally from the religious town of Pire Goureuy where he was born in 1940, he settled in Thiès in 1968 with the ambition of building his future. After an initial experience as manager of the Bata company, he made the courageous choice of entrepreneurship and founded his own label: "My Parent, at the service of the Nation", a motto he embodied throughout his life.
A pioneer in the automotive spare parts sector at a time dominated by foreign operators, he succeeded in establishing himself through his hard work, perseverance, and vision. But beyond the businessman, it is above all the "benefactor" that the people of Thiès will remember El Hadji Djiby Diagne, who, for decades, supported hundreds of families, assisted transporters in acquiring vehicles, helped the sick, covered prescriptions and hospitalization costs, welcomed patients into his own home, and carried out numerous social works.
His commitment was also evident in his support for mosques, schools, Koranic schools (daaras), healthcare facilities, and humanitarian efforts across Senegal. Recognized at the highest levels of government for his service to the nation, he received numerous decorations, including the National Order of Merit and the National Order of the Lion. With his passing, Thiès loses a man of great heart, a quiet builder, and a model of generosity. May he rest in peace.
